What is PESO?

The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) is a non-fee charging multi-employment service facility or entity established or accredited by DOLE in Local Government Units (LGUs), State Universities and Private Institutions, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), pursuant to Republic Act 8759 otherwise known as the PESO Act of 1999 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations.

The PESOs are linked to the Regional Office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for coordination and technical supervision, and to the DOLE Central Office, to constitute the National Employment Service Network.

Background Information

The PESO under the office of the Cebu Provincial Governor, became operational in Capitol with the signing of the MOA on August 20, 1992. The office started with three (3) employee who catered mostly to the wage employment service both in the local and foreign market. On November 5 & 6, 1992, two months after the effectivity of the agreement, the first Overseas Job Fair was undertaken by PESO in coordination with DOLE and POEA. Because of the clamor for more employment opportunities, Capitol targets a yearly local and overseas Job Fair.

Since Capitol PESO was adopted to provide multi-service facility, it gradually expanded to include self-employment and employability enhancement and related services. At present, PESO Capitol with seven trained employees, under the supervision of the Chief Labor and Employment Officer, has earned the respect of its clientele. It enjoys the support of both government and private agencies and the print and broadcast media.
